Garden Wall Specialists

A brick garden wall is one of the most valuable improvements you can make to a home - it defines the property, adds kerb appeal, and if it's built properly it will stand for a hundred years with only occasional pointing maintenance. Get it wrong and it will lean, crack or fail inside a decade. The difference between the two is almost always in the parts you can't see.

Every wall we build starts with proper foundations: excavated to the right depth for the ground conditions, poured on a solid base and set out square before the first course goes down. On sloping sites or where the wall is holding back soil, we design in appropriate drainage, weep holes and reinforcement so ground water and lateral pressure don't cause future issues.

Above ground, we focus on the details that make a wall look right for the property: brick selection, bond pattern, pier spacing, plinth courses, weathering details and cappings. On period homes that usually means reclaimed or matched bricks with a lime-based mortar; on modern properties, a clean facing brick with a neat bucket-handle joint. Where the wall carries iron railings, gates or lighting, we set the fixings during the build rather than drilling in afterwards.

Note on structural retaining walls: any retaining wall over about 1m in height is a structural element and may need engineered design. Where that's the case, we'll say so up front and work with a structural engineer rather than guess at it.
